Description

Wildcat Brothers Founding Distillier, David Meaux, and his father, Retired Navy Submarine Captain Richard Meaux, at the 2020 Black Tot Ceremony. Captain Meaux is highlighted on the 2021 Valor Ration label.

What’s Black Tot Day?

On this day in 1970, the British Royal Navy stopped issuing sailors their daily ration of rum (the daily tot) that was a form of payment to the sailors for more than three centuries.

Over fifty years later, Wildcat Brothers Distilling is partnering with the Acadiana Verteran Alliance (AVA) to bring back this tradition of rum “rations” while highlighting the important work and impact made by the AVA and veterans in Louisiana.

So, as French Acadians, we are officially claiming this tradition because we believe every day deserves a sip of rum and show of gratitude to our veterans… and who wants British blackstrap molasses rum anyways?

The WB & AVA Partnership

To commemorate this historic intersection of rum and the military, Wildcat Brothers Distilling and the Acadiana Veteran Alliance (AVA) have partnered to release an annual “ration” of rum to celebrate our heroes who’ve sacrificed and served America proudly.

We are officially reclaiming the “ration” tradition because we believe every day deserves a sip of Wildcat Brothers rum and a gesture of gratitude to our vets, with the toast of “SPLICE THE MAINBRACE!!!”.. the order given aboard naval vessels to issue the crew with an alcoholic drink.

For this special release, ONLY 200 bottles are being released and each will be signed by Capt. Meaux to commemorate the WB & AVA partnership.

Proceeds from this purchase – $30 a bottle – will be used to fund veterans’ WORK and HEAL programs through the AVA.

Valor Rations Rum: A perfect blend of American and French oak aging

The Wildcat Brothers distilling team has a developed a bold and smooth golden rum unlike anything on the market. The charred American white oak-aging brings subtle vanilla and smoky notes while the French oak brings in a spicier finish similar to a fine rye. This rum is just as comfortable dressed up in a cocktail or resting on rocks.
